Garage Door Video Tips: Garage Door Openers
Posted by: | CommentsWe’re often asked about the different types of garage door openers that are available for residential overhead garage doors.
At Garage Door Canada we carry the world’s most popular garage door opener brand, “Liftmaster”.
Liftmaster garage door openers come in a number of different models and styles. The chain driven garage door openers are not so popular anymore since a belt drive is much quieter in operation and more reliable.
You can get a belt drive system with a dc motor and a battery backup system which means that even if the power goes out your garage door opener will still work. Another great feature to look for is a “soft start, soft stop”. Basically the unit starts and stops with a ramp-up, or down speed to eliminate the harsh start and stop jolt, once again for quiet operation and less maintenance over time.
The shaft mounted model from Liftmaster, the 3800 is a garage door opener that is mounted to the side of the garage door and doesn’t require an overhead boom to house the belt or chain drive. The benefit to this type of garage door opener is that it takes up less overhead space but for the classic car enthusiast, imagine the secure feeling of not having a steel boom with a moving 
chain hanging in suspension over your prized classic automobile.
There are several accessories available for your new garage door opener as well. One of my favourites is the “laser park assist”. This is a system that shines a laser light from above the car to a certain point on the dash of the vehicle as you drive in. When the laser light shines on that pre-determined spot on the dash, simply stop your vehicle to perfectly park every time.
Another great garage door opener accessory is the outside keyless entry, finger print keyless entry, and several intercom, home security products to go along with your garage door opener.

Garage Door Video Tips: What Are Steel Insulated Garage Doors?
Posted by: | CommentsWe typically get a lot of questions about “Insulated Garage Doors”, so I hope that this information will help.
Steel overhead garage doors with no insulation look pretty normal from the outside but when you’re looking at the inside of the door panel you’ll see that it’s hollow. An insulated version of the same door would have the hollow cavity filled with poly styrene, or some kind of fiberglass insulation sheet glued into the panel.
This type of insulation provides an R value of R-6 to R-8. An insulated garage door also adds to the solid feel of the door as well.

A modern steel insulated garage door has the polyurethane insulation injected into the door at the same time that the inside and outside door skins are rolled. This provides an extremely light 
weight, high strength to weight ratio panel that’s totally sealed to resist moisture. Our Richards Wilcox steel insulated garage doors have an R value of 12.6 which along with a proper installation will keep your garage warmer in winter and cooler in the summer heat.

Garage Door Video Tips: What Sizes Do Garage Doors Come In?

A popular standard single garage door is 8′w X 7′h as is 9′ X 7′. Another common garage door size is 10′ X 7′. A double car garage can range from 14′ wide to 18′ and sometimes beyond.
The height of a garage door is typically 7 feet, however 8′ is becoming more popular with people who want to accommodate a roof rack or taller vehicle.
It’s also possible to have a custom garage door built with non standard sizes such as; 6ft. 6in., 6ft. 9in., and so on in three inch increments for the height. Custom widths can be built within 1″ increments.
Of course if your garage is already built you will have limited options, but if you’re building your dream garage with custom sized we’re only too happy to accommodate.
Garage Door Video Tips: How Much Are New Garage Doors?
Posted by: | CommentsGarage door prices vary greatly. Take a 9′ X 7′ garage door as an example. You can buy these installed for probably as little as $600.00 to $700.00. But you can also pay up to around $5,000.00 for the same sized door. It depends on the frills, decorative hardware, accessories, etc.
The variance from good quality to low quality is only about 20%. That’s why we suggest that you don’t shop on price alone. Manufacturers can make doors fit any price point BUT you can pay in terms of cheaper quality for a cheaper door price.
In this video I suggest that you find a garage door company that displays their doors, like we do here at Garage Door Canada. That way you can see the quality of the doors, ask questions about the doors, and get a comfortable feeling about the doors and the company before you lay down your hard earned cash.

Garage Door Sale: Savings Rebates and Save HST!
Posted by: | CommentsRichards Wilcox has launched a rebate savings program for the RW Carriage House Doors, and RW Family Save Elite, and Premium Garage Doors.
You will receive a $100.00 rebate for each 2 car garage door, and a $50.00 rebate for a 1 car garage door if you have us install a complete door system from RW. This program is in effect until July 31st, 2010.
But that’s not all!
As you know the new HST tax becomes effective in Ontario as of July 1st. This new tax will be a blend of the PST and the GST and will total of 13%. This is an increase of 5% from the current PST level which is 8%. This new tax will apply to garage doors, parts, and installation.
But Not At Garage Door Canada!
Well not until after July 31st at least. That’s right… we will reduce the price of the new garage door and installation by the 5% increased amount and therefore giving you an opportunity to save the HST for an additional month beyond July 1st.
Add the savings rebate together with the Garage Door Canada HST savings and you’ve got a great deal on some of the finest quality doors in the industry.
